Life City Church

Audio Systems Integration by: Audio Related Technology
Overview: When Life City Church, a dynamic and diverse congregation based in South London, needed a new sound system to support its vibrant live worship music, it turned to 2B Heard and K-array. With portability, sound quality, and ease of use as top priorities, the solution had to be as flexible as the church’s ever-evolving needs.
The Challenge
Operating out of Woodcote High School in Coulsdon while searching for a permanent home, Life City Church needed a powerful yet portable sound reinforcement system. Their aging Turbosound PA no longer met the demands of their music-led services. Pastor Steve Sutherland highlighted the church’s priorities: “Better sound quality, quick setup, and affordability—our £60k budget had to cover everything from speakers to in-ears.”
The Solution
Audio specialist Simon Griffett of Audio Related Technology introduced Life City to 2B Heard. A visit to 2B Heard’s demonstration facility proved to be a turning point. The team was introduced to the K-array Pinnacle-KR402 system, featuring compact Kayman-KY102 line arrays paired with Thunder-KMT21 subwoofers.
Despite initial skepticism about the compact size, the system’s flat EQ playback left a lasting impression. “The look on their faces changed from disbelief to wide smiles,” said Griffett.
Configured as a simple L-R stereo setup with active/passive sub pairing, the system made full use of its internal DSP and streamlined rigging—ideal for weekly setup in a school hall. “We can have it up and running in less than 10 minutes,” noted Pastor Steve. “And it all fits in one compact flight case. That’s a game-changer for us.”
The Results
- Crystal-clear clarity: “Definition is crystal clear. Kick drum and bass guitar punch through. Guitars sound fabulous,” said Pastor Steve.
- Professional approval: Visiting musicians frequently praised the sound quality, reinforcing confidence in the setup.
- Consistency: Audio engineer Simon Connell-Flynn highlighted the system’s room-filling sound and consistent frequency response throughout the venue.
- Discreet aesthetics: The sleek form factor ensured the speakers complemented, rather than distracted from, the worship setting.
Remote support from 2B Heard even allowed for subwoofer adjustments during a live Sunday setup—a testament to their hands-on service approach.
With its new K-array Pinnacle-KR402 system, Life City Church now enjoys professional-level audio that enhances worship, impresses musicians, and sets the stage—literally—for the church’s continued growth.
